Delivering our highest ever on time and in full

Peppard Building Supplies has achieved its highest ever on time in full (OTIF) rate for deliveries thanks to new processes introduced across the company.

The changes, brought in by Peppard’s new operations manager Darren Kimpton, are part of an on-going programme of improvements.

Hammersmith-born Darren previously worked at Euro Car Parts, where he developed his knowledge of warehouse management and product delivery.

The 39-year-old father of seven-year-old twin boys said: “As a family business Peppard is known for its excellent customer service and promise of top delivery times, which is why it has invested so much in new additions to the fleet in recent times.

“There are challenges to making deliveries. Sometimes with as little one day’s notice we have to supply any one of hundreds of products and in a limitless quantity straight from stock. There are hundreds of builders requesting products daily and something as simple as a change in the weather can have a huge impact on what is being ordered.”

Darren has made changes to processes and infrastructure to help the business meet changing demands.

“By using a business model and incorporating my own experience in previous jobs, I’ve been able to reduce the turnaround time of deliveries, which in turn has helped us to improve the OTIF rate for our customers to almost 96 per cent and we expect that to improve further,” Darren added.

“It’s all about improving channels of communication, getting the staff to talk to one another, which ultimately makes our loading and delivery times that much better.”

Along with improving delivery times, Darren has also introduced new uniforms for all of the staff, from polo tops to high-visibility jackets making them more easily recognisable to customers.

He added that there are many other operational changes in store.

“In the last six months we’ve seen a phenomenal growth in the building trade and need to be in a position where we can keep up with that demand,” Darren explained.

“I still have several operational changes in mind, particularly further improving loading and unloading times and changing the traffic management on site to help the customer experience.”

Peppard offers a free delivery policy across the Reading and Henley areas and further with a minimum order value of just £30.

Recent fleet investments have included a new 26 tonne, crane offload vehicle, which carries hundreds of square metres of products, and represents a significant addition to the firm’s delivery capacity.
